Scrapping a Ship

Ships that are built, or just ordered this turn, or laid down but not completed can be scrapped at any time.

The scrap value varies:

• For ships ordered in the current turn, or for all ships on the first turn of a campaign, the scrap value is 100% of the build cost. In other words, you get all the RPs back that had been allocated for the build.
• For ships that were ordered on a previous turn, including now completed ships, the return varies from between 80% and 20% of the build cost. A ship ordered in the immediately previous turn will return 80% of the allocated cost. A ship now completed will return 20%. A ship that is part completed will return an intermediate value, depending on how far advanced is the construction.

The rationale for having a reducing rate of scrap value is simple: The cost of building a ship in RPs is effectively an amortised cost for not just the materials but also the labour and all other resources required. These resources can be swapped away with no penalty before the construction project starts. The longer a ship is in construction, the greater the proportion of resources that have been consumed that cannot be returned by scrapping it.

You can scrap the currently selected ship in the navy list by clicking the 'Scrap' button. You will be asked to confirm the action as it cannot be undone. You will also be informed of the potential scrap value.

You can also scrap all of your ships in one go (provided they are in port) - by clicking the 'Scrap All' button. You will be asked to confirm the action as it cannot be undone.
